Essential German Grammar  (M. Durrell, K. Kohl and G. Loftus, published by Arnold)
An impressive book to be displayed ostentatiously on the desk, with comprehensive, and often comprehensible explanations of German grammar.

Succeed in English - Key Stage 2 Upper - Ages 9 to 11.
No German language content, but an excellent introduction to all the basic concepts of grammar and full of short sentences and easy words. A book to keep under the desk to be brought out at regular intervals during German grammar exercises.

English Grammar for Students of German (C. Zorach and C. Melin, published by Arnold)
A more detailed explanation of Grammar, with emphasis on the parts required to learn German.

Collins Easy Learning German Dictionary (published by HarperCollins)
A good compromise between being having a large enough vocabulary to find most words but not being so large that it takes five minutes of squinting through paragraphs of closely written print to find the right word. Also it contains useful colloquial expressions.
